how can my now 21 year old son just act like we his parents don,t exist ?
we desperately need some help. our now 21 year old son doesn*t even act like we exist. he met this 16 year old girl her family and her are no good. we never had a problem with our son till now. he always worked to have stuff. he lost his job when he met this girl and now is doing nothing with his life. he has left so many times to live with her family and doesn*t call or talk to us. we have told him if he wants to leave then take his stuff and he always says no. he was always a very clean and neat boy and now he goes dirty and doesn*t care for anything but them. he only took about 2 pair of pants and 2 shirts with him this time and we haven*t heard from him in over 2 weeks. he is careless and he is just not at all like himself. please help me understand what happened to him.

I truly feel for you. This is a very difficult situation indeed. It is my personal belief that things like this don't just suddenly happen though. What has been happening in your son's life other than meeting this girl and her family...mainly how has your relationship with him been over the years? Does he have any diagnoses? Has he been depressed or anxious?
Is it possible for you to contact this other family and have a chat with them about your son and what is going on?
The other issue is that he is 21 and considered to be an adult. He may make decisions that you don't like.
I think communication is key here...you have to find a way to really talk to him without judgement and see what is going on. What do you want to happen?
