Can I be able to have more children with the VCFS ?

Hi, my name is Janet Marsh and im 25 yrs. old. I found out that I had vcfs when I was 22yrs old when my first child was born. When my son was born they tested him for everything and found out that he only had DI George Syndrome and they tested me and I only had the VCF. My husband and I are going to see my genetic doctor in May and were wanting to have another child. Is there a possibility for me to have another child thats going to have another syndrome like my first child did??? My first child Elijah passed away at 13 months old with his DI George im just trying to find and talk to someone to let them tell me wheather theres a chance or not. Please let me know asap. Thank you so much.

What a beautiful little baby Elijah was!! I am so very sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine what you have gone through.

You must remember, though, that this was not your fault. You did not do anything to cause this and it is not a reflection on your ability to be a good mother. You sound like you were a wonderful mother!

Each pregnancy would have a 50% chance of the fetus developing VCFS. Having previous pregnancies does not reduce or increase these chances.

I saw that someone who replied to your share post gave information on what her son used during the conception process. I don't know if it would be best for you, but it may be worth discussing with your doctor.

I wish you the best and hope you will keep us updated on how you are doing.

Hello there...first of all I am so sorry for your loss...I have a daughter with DiGeorge and we thank our lucky stars every day that she is healthy and happy.

For your question, YES, you can absolutely have another child with an excellent chance that he or she will not have DiGeorge using in vitro fertilization.  With natural conception through sex, you have a 50% chance of passing on the deletion.  But, if you have in vitro done they can test the fertilized eggs before they are even implanted.  Of course it's a pretty pricey alternative, but so many women can't have children at all.

I hope this helps, here is a link to the info I found about it:
