How to Evaluate myself...?
I'm a 25 year old male who would like to have an evaluation done. Since I'm out of school I don't have access to experts and tests like school aged kids do. I suspect something may be up with ADHD and/or Dyslexia, how do I find out for sure?
That is a very interesting question; I have never really thought about that, and I'm not qualified to give any advice, but what I can do is tell you what it's like for me to live with ADHD. I find that whenever I try to work in my room, I often find that I'd rather play a video game or turn on the TV. Really anywhere I am I often find myself thinking about a thousand things at one time. But everyone's different and you'll probably want to check with a doctor. Good luck!

You are not too old to have a neuropsychological evaluation (given by either a neuropsychologist or Ph.D trained to give neuropsych assessments) to assess your AD/HD "symptoms" and should also include assessment of your executive functions, working memory and visual and auditory processing. In addition, a speech and language therapist can evaluate your speech and language skills as they pertain to Dyslexia. Regarding the possible Dyslexia...do you struggle to read/decode words, and/or struggle with your speed/fluency, spelling and vocabulary and finally, how is your reading comprehension? Can you read/decode the words with some ease but struggle to understand what you are reading? These are all important questions. You might also research the universities/colleges in your surrounding area that have a Department of Education, Department of Speech and Language, Department of Psychology or Neuropsychology and doing research on Dyslexia and Hyperlexia and Ad/HD and they may offer some opportunities for you to to be evaluated.
I hope this information proves helpful.
