Special ed confuses me

So i am in special ed (for math) and i was not aware i was in special ed till i was in freshman at high school. I was wondering when i am at lunch downstairs i see kids that are in a more severe special ed where they where helmets and there is allways a teacher walking with them and the kids all have some more severe disabilities, and i was wondering what kind of class that was because i grew up beliving that special ed was that class and not the class that i was in. the only special ed class i have for this year is Advance math concepts and applications an content stratagies and Foundations for the future. Last year i had math concepts and reading 2-m for special ed. I grew up going to normal class in elementary but they would pull me out for an houer or two. So i was wondering what class was that where there are allways teachers aid? And i never had that class growing up as a kid.

When I was in highschool, long ago. I learn that was there was a class room for the more serve disabilites, they need the supervision...but there is also regular special ed where you will see others like yourself taking special ed math. They don't have aids but you will be in a smaller class room so you can have the extra help when neeed.  I hope that help you.

Sounds like what youe were seeing was the SDC(special Day Class).  Those kids need cntstnat supervision for both behavioral and medical issues usuall.  Most have aides with them all day long.  What you are enrolled in is more of a resource special ed.  This means that you just attend classes that go over the curriculum a little more slowly and hte teacher to student ratio is much smaller.  This gives the students more time to review concepts and have more time with the teacher.  My son has this for Math and he is completely main-streamed.  He has VCFS.
