Success- straight A's for the first time ever!!!

I went back to find my blogs to see where my state of mind was on this all. I thought I had written about my success. It feels so good right now after reading the entries. Funny, it seems like ages ago.

Her IEP is done. We put her in a small charter school. Many people say it has a bad reputation. The kids there are eccentric. There are all kinds of people, gothic, misfits, "normal looking", athletes, mostly kids who do not have a...

We finally have our elgibility- next step iep

I cannot beleive it. After two years of fighting with two different school districts in two different states, someone finally listened!!! Although I am sad that my child is learning disabled, I am happy that now she will be able to be on the same playing field for once...

Not that it didnt take all my energies and monies. Two private evaluations later, and with the aid of a 4'11' dynamo law student (who was kind enough to donate her...

School Eligibility Continued...

So, we are awaiting our required 65 business days to the eligibility meeting. Of course, they are over the limit. My meeting is Wednesday. By law, they have two business days ahead of time to send me the reports. I have only received one. The one I receive is from the speech evaluation. I loved the recommendations... I recommend this report be discussed!!! Can you believe it? Interestingly, they only did one screening test. Luckily, I have a...

The report is in!!

I finally get my auditory processing report. There are two deficits, BORDERLINE (oh no, the school will love that word), in Auditory Figure Ground, and mild snr loss in Quick-SIN speech in noise test. Now, will this help or hurt us in our fight with the school. Since I paid for this examination, do I provide them with the results? How do we play the game? Auditory closure, just similar to what the nueropsychologist told us to begin with...

More tests- more progress

We keep going forward. We subjected our child to an auditory processing exam. Into the spaceship she went, and hours later we had the results. Thanks to some of my independent providers, they led us to ask for that. Unfortunately, our child has a dysfunction. The report will be back prior to our Evaluation meeting. The provider was dismayed that it took us until almost High School to find this out. An FM system is suggested, but what high...

Progress- 504 done testing for iep in progress...

We continue to make progress .. finally, after almost a wasted eigth grade school year, we obtained a 504 for anxiety. At least, we can start high school with a document that will allow us to speak to each teacher about the anxiety. Now, not that all the teachers will follow, as we are well aware. Maybe, just maybe some of them will have some compassion... Can you beleive in a meeting one of the teachers said, and I quote, "I dont care what...

frustration

I write this as a mom who is frustrated with the system. I am a mom of four. I have three non learning disabled kids and one who is. I have fought to find help. I found this site. I began to do my research. I am fighting with a school system who is more worried about numbers than helping my kid. I keep fighting.

It doesnt really matter which state you are in - it seems like if you have a kid who isnt a behavioral issue, they tend to try...
