Welcome and Introduction

Welcome to the FriendsOfQuinn website. My name is Eileen Bailey and I am very excited to be involved in this website. I have been writing about Attention Deficit Disorder for over 10 years and it is a pleasure to extend my writing to include Learning Disabilities. Over the years, it has always been my intent to provide people impacted by ADHD (and now LD) with information to help them make informed decisions about strategies they can use in daily life.
In addition to bringing information based on research, I have an 11-year old son with possible learning disabilities. I say possible because he has not been formally diagnosed. He may instead have learning difficulties that impact his learning but have not been diagnosed because they are not interfering with his grades in school. He has shown dyslexic tendencies as well as some of the symptoms of Central Auditory Processing Disorder (however, since he is deaf in one ear, he cannot be tested for CAPD). He also shows some signs of Written Expression Disorder. All of these greatly impact his spelling and writing assignments and although he has been below grade level in reading, with tutoring and support he brings himself back up. Although he has not been formally diagnosed, at home we use strategies to help him succeed and overcome some of the symptoms he deals with on a daily basis.
This experience will help me to bring not only a writer's perspective, but a personal experience.
In addition, my older son has been diagnosed with ADHD, severe depression and bipolar disorder. He is now 23 and is not in school, however, I have spent many years working with teachers and schools to help provide him with the help he has needed throughout his education. I have learned to navigate the educational system through the desire to help both of my sons suceed not only in school but in life.
I hope the knowledge that I have gained through the years, as well as the research I have done and will do will help each of you as you learn about learning disabilities to help yourself and your family. It is my desire to help each of you succeed.

Answer a Question
I blank out a lot when driving, and don't see things when I should. Is this part of VCFS?
