ASK LOOK AND LISTEN
by Barbara Colley

The alarm rings loud
It's time to get up
another school day has begun
I must find clothes that match
and brush my teeth and hair
The noisy school bus stops
and I get in..
I say Good morning to my teacher,
take a deep breath and sit at my
desk, so many words, numbers
and rules
I try to listen, I don't understand
I get scared, I want to cry
I don't think I can do this
but I will try
Close my eyes and see the word
I get so nervous, but then I smile
I got it right, I feel so glad
I can't be perfect, but I can try
My name is Rachel, and I'm here to say
I am somebody, I have a lot to say
I can't get it right on paper
but give me a chance
Come sit with me, listen and see
you, will find the real me, ask, look
and listen then you will know
That you have found, the who in me
My verbal intelligence is where I will be
