Quinn's Guide to Friendship, Dating and Self-Confidence

Foq_btn_download_guide

Hi, I am writing this in hopes of getting helpful tips on how to work with my student in school who has been diagnosed with VCFS. He is 11 years old. I have a very good relationship with him, although when he gets frustrated, he calls me names and strikes out at me. I know that when he is overwhelmed or just having a bad day is when this happens. One of my biggest problems is that he is very impulsive and he wants to touch or poke people that he does not know. He finds it very humorous and doesn't understand, or he laughs at me when I ask him to stop. He is obsessed with cartoon characters and only wants to talk about them and even makes believe that he is talking to them. If I were to allow him to do what he wants, it would be to draw cartoon characters all day. Is this a normal behavior for someone with this syndrome. I know that his home life is hard for him as his parents are going through a divorce which is why I think sometimes he is allowed to act in an unacceptable way and I feel that he brings that to school with him. I would like to do things with him outside of school to be another influence in his life, but I know there is a fine line as to whether I should cross that line between personal and professional. Just wondering if anyone has any input for me.
