    Hi Quinn,

Just read your inspiring book this afternoon!

Here's another school for your listing.

My son Noah attended this one. They also have intensive Summer school and a very fun Summer day camp!

     - Irene (I'm Lucy & Will's other Aunt!)

Charles Armstrong School is the San Francisco Bay Area’s independent elementary and middle school for students with language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia. Since 1968, CAS has helped thousands of students discover that learning can be a rewarding experience – by helping them gain the reading, writing, speaking and/or math skills that eluded them in traditional schools. We place major emphasis on helping students discover and develop their strengths.

    Hi Quinn,

I just heard you on the radio with Don Imus.  I wish my son could meet you!  He would really enjoy your company!  You sound amazing.  Your parents have done a great job bringing you up.

My son goes to a great school in Newton, MA called The Learning Prep School.  He is loving school!  It would be great if there were more schools like this in Massachusetts.  They have a huge waiting list.  The headmaster is amazing and has done everything possible to have as many kids as possible attend the school. I have seen parents crying in the parking lot because they are desperate for their child to attend a school where everyone is accepted as being cool.  No bullying allowed at this school.

A few more schools that cater to students with LD

    The Carroll School   Lincoln, MA

The Sally Borden School at Friends Academy  Dartmouth, MA

The Hamilton School at The Wheeler School  Providence, RI

What we really need is school choice or vouchers so that we can afford to send our children to some of these wonderful schools.  Unfortunately the public schools aren't getting the job done.

I am currently working on my masters degree after teaching special education for 15 years.  I want to be a leader in starting schools, organizations, and programs which reach and teach all students.  There is no "norm" any longer, and shame on all school systems who are not really using all funding available to reach and truly teach and inspire students with difficulties.  The government has the available funds, and they should be used appropriately by all public and private schools! I hope to change that soon, here in South Texas.

God Bless You and all of your efforts!!! I can't tell you how many teachers I have spoken to that their hands are tied and can't speak up in fear of losing their job. They are for the most part stuck pushing kids along that they know are struggling, or drowning in classes. I'll never forget the day my son realized that I knew he couldn't read (He thought he was the only one who knew)With tears in is eyes telling me how sorry he was, that he couldn't do it. I expalined to him how this was not his fault, and that the school failed him. From that day on he was a different kid, together we took charge of his learning. The problem is that you need a secret decoder ring or pass word to get  the services needed. There is so much potential wasting away in  special ed these kids are the out of the box thinkers they have to adapt and find ways to get along in the world. One person told me everyone knows you go in the front door, but for our kids that door is locked, they have to find another way in, eventually they get that front door unlocked, but those others will have no idea that side door exists. Wink

My daughter who has ADD, Processing Disorder and Dyslexia has attended the Bedford School, a non-profit school outside Atlanta, Ga. for the past five years from 3rd to 7th grade.  She was always called lazy and fat by the other kids at her former school, and was able to escape all of this COMPLETELY at Bedford!  Teasing and bullying are absolutely not tolerated and all of the kids work together so well since they do not have to deal with any of this. My daughter has now been on the honor roll for the past 2 years and they teach the same stuff, just in a different way.  I have not helped her with her homework in five years, since they really teach independence in many ways. They prepare their students for high school and college well based on the performance of students that have moved on to regular high schools.  If you can find one in your area with a similar curriculum( see thebedfordschool.org) it is worth every penny, even though we didn't qualify for a scholarship.  I am glad Quinn started his website!

    Its a co-ed Day school.

FOunded in 1980 and named after a past head master of The Gow School.

I am so greatful for this school without them I wouldn't be graduating with a NYS Advance Regents Diploma. And I wouldn't have gotten into some of the Colleges I applied to & got accepted.

I think know matter what school for LD students they seem to be all helpful even if they cost more that investment is worth it since I don't think I would be were I am today without NHS.

    Morrissey/Compton Education Center, Inc.

The Morrissey/Compton Educational Center, Inc. is a nonprofit, private corporation founded in 1982 by Dr. Patricia Morrissey and Dr. Carolyn Compton. Dr. John Brentar is the Director. The agency provides both diagnostic and treatment services for children and adults with learning disabilities, as well as professional consultation to agencies and community organizations.

It is the mission of Morrissey/Compton Educational Center to enable children and adults with learning disabilities and other school-related difficulties to achieve their goals by providing the highest quality diagnostic and intervention services in a supportive environment.

In addition, there is Challenge Summer School.

Challenge is a five-week summer program for elementary students with mild to moderate learning or language disabilities. The program focuses on maintenance of academic skills, instruction in new strategies to succeed in school, and the continuing development of self-esteem.

Each summer, the school enrolls 65 to 70 students. Students are grouped into classes of approximately 10 students per class based on age, grade, and social/emotional skill level. Each class is taught by credentialed teachers with expertise in the area of learning disabilities.

Challenge also teaches its graduates in a well-regarded program that brings them back as Aides-In-Training to help students and teachers in the classroom and on the playground. In this supportive environment, they serve as mentors to the younger children. They also serve as reminders to all that students who struggle in school can become successful young adults.

For more information, see the center's web site:

I Graduated from the Norman Howard School this year and I am currently attending the School of Art & Design @ Alfred University.

I would not be where I am now with out this School they are terrific and Would highly recommend NHS to anyone one in the Greater Rochester area.

Also Alfred University Special Academic Services are really good for those looking for Colleges with LD programs. I have a mtg each week with an acedemic consultant who can help you with organiztion, time mangament, and filling out forms for exam accomidations to just someone to help with the transition to college or be there when you need extra support on projects.

Unlike RIT (I almost went here also)  it doesn't cost any additional $$$ (this goes for all services through SAS and tutoring).

    Hello,

My 17 year-old daughter Rebecca has been attending The Frostig School (Middle/Secondary) for 7 years. This is a ground-breaking Center and School for Children with LD in Pasadena California. Frostig has studied success attributes of graduates of the school and offers a wonderful free guide for Parents and Teachers.

Drawing on more than 20 years of groundbreaking research tracing the lives of children and adults with LD, researchers at the Frostig Center in Pasadena, California have identified key factors that contribute to success.

Understanding and nuturing these key factors - called "success attributes" - can aid in a child's development and ability to overcome LD. Each of the six success attributes - self-awareness, proactivity, perseverance, goal-setting, support systems, and emotional coping strategies - has been shown to lead to successful life outcomes for children with LD.

Now, these innovative guides for parents and teachers offer new tools to help foster the development of these success attributes:

I wouldn't be married today without Frostig  they  attended  to my academic-social and emotional needs.Iam trying to create with special educational experts here in San Diego  a non-profit organization. This Non Profit organization will Provide Educational-Artistic-Emotional-Vocational support for children.Children shouldn't be victimized by the recession or by  parents who have  limited by income resources. My way of giving back to Frostig is to celebrate its legacy and I will continue to until the end of my life.

Thank you for posting this great list! Here is another school for families in Northern California (and beyond) to consider: Sterne School in San Francisco. You can find it at www.sterneschool.org. A local TV station also featured it in their broadcast recently. you can see it at www.bestofthebaytv.com and search for Sterne School. Here is a description from their website: Welcome to Sterne School in San Francisco. We are a small, nurturing environment for middle and high school students with mild to moderate learning differences. Our aim is to remove the pressure and fast pace our students often find in traditional schools so that students can transition from frustration to learning discovery. Situated in Pacific Heights in a location convenient to the entire Bay Area, we provide stability, confidence and new skills to help our students realize their individual academic potential and contribute positively to society. In our warm, respectful, and diverse community, many Sterne students experience educational success for the first time. They benefit from the extra attention of teachers and the support of each other. They acquire new tools that allow them to find their own voices.

First a little information about Maplebrook. It is a small coed school, about 100 total students, that accepts kids as young as 5th grade and extends through High School and has a post-grad program to help young adults adjust to working life. They use a progrm called RISE (Responsibility Increases Self Esteem) to help the students develop social skills and strong work habits. The program works well for most of the students and I would recommend this school for LD kids.

My son was in seventh grade last year and had a really good year. It was a big improvement over the public school. His social skills and self esteem noticably improved and he is much happier. Today was his first day for this year and he couldn't wait to get back. The summer was a struggle but we made it through it. Last year my son often forgot assignments, articles of clothing and electronic devices at school. He is a day student and commuted home most nights. We're going to work on improving that this year but memory issues are a big problem for him. The last six weeks of school he started to stay over two nights a week and that went really well.

There's much more to report but I'll leave it at that for now. All in all, while Maplebrook hasn't been a magic bullet to make all the problems go away, the small class sizes and socializing with peers has helped my son immensely. Again, I would recommend this school for LD kids.

I used to work at a boarding school/day school in Atlanta for the learning disabled.  I gleaned quite a lot of information while there that may, or may not, be of assistance to you in your information gathering.  There are national organizations that have a lot of information to share:  Learning Disabilities Association of America (ldanatl.org) and National Center for Learning Disabilities (ncld.org).  I live in the Atlanta area, so the local organization is Learning Disabilities Association of GA (ldag.org).  Those websites provide a lot of really valuable information for parents.

Within the Atlanta area there is one boarding school, Brandon Hall, and several day schools that are excellent.  They are The Howard School, Cottage School, Schenk School, Atlanta Speech School, Pathways Academy, Sophia Academy to name a few.  There are others but I cannot think of them off the top of my head and these are the ones with which I am most familiar.  There is also a program in the Atlanta area called Jacobs Ladder.  It is not a school per se but does wonderful things for autistic children and others.  I hope this information is beneficial to someone who visits your site. My own daughter has two learning disabilities and my stepson does as well.

Theres the Threshold Program in Cambridge Mass that is apart of the undergraduate program of Leslie University. It was a 3 year intense independent living vocational college for adults with learning disablities.I attended in 89-92.When  I attended Threshold the only negative was the director Arlen. She played the old game of your my favorite student if your Rich connected parents donate alot of money. My father who was the late Harvey Korman and Arlen thought she had a sugar daddy to advance her power and her wallet. There is a video called through the minds eye produced by the Disney Channel and my father and I are on the video. There was a class at Threshold called understanding LD.On the front lawn of the threshold campus in front of some staff and students Arlen Berated me for playing up who my father was.I told Arlen that she was a hypocrite because she had already showcased my Show Biz upbrining without my consent. What Galled me more then anything she hadn't told my dad or I that I was apart of the subject material. These are the pitfalls of being related to someone famous. You arent seen as just another student You are a representative of Social status and greasing the wheels for opportunistic administrators. My imagine of Spoiled and Show Biz kid was  preordained. That was the worst 3 years of my life.Fame isn't a wonderful thing if it impedes your ability to cultivate your own social standing.

Parentpals.com.Linda Home Schools because Linda found that fighting the stacked deck of School districts/law firms that are corrupted by greed is not a fight worth destroying the family unit.Children shouldn't have to underachieve and parents shouldn't spend their lifetime and their childrens feeling victimized by the question why my child. Why fortify the monster that is a corrupt School System when achieving greatness and prosperity as apart of a cohesive family unit instead of being victimized a ethnically challenged body of Government.

Having been given the privaledge of having my educational needs met by the Frostig School I know how important it is for a child to be given the resources to become a high functioning adult. My friend Linda who does home schooling for her own child would be a great person to talk to.I believe a specialized program to meet each childs needs is the best way to counteract underachieving. My maturation process right or wrong was a excelerated process only because my father was Harvey Korman.I  endured brain damage and surgery on my jaw to correct a speech impediment because Frostig and my  parents provided me the emotional and educational blue print to become the person iam today and that is a family man. Those in the field of Education  who feel entitled to the riches  of life  either need to seek their fortunes in the shallow world of show biz or be happy to know they have a job in this recession when many people don't.My father had more fame and fortune then those in  our countries School districts and legal systems could ever obtain and he never protected aires of Self Entitlement. My father cared more about being a parent then being the representation of the shallow pursuit of materialism and fame.I have those in my family who begrudge me my success because they measure success by materialistic possessions. Its there  inability to evolve as members of the human race that is flawed and still learning to heal and prosper that keeps them from reaching their potential for greatness.

Please add this to your list.  It's a great school very close to Landmark College (the college exclusively for students with ADHD and LD's).  From the Greenwood School's website:

The Greenwood School, is a pre-preparatory boarding and day school for boys age 9 to 14 who have been diagnosed with: dyslexia; specific language-based learning disabilities / learning differences (LD); receptive language and/or expressive language deficits; executive functioning deficits; attentional difficulties (ADD or ADHD); disorders of written expression; dysgraphia; or speech and language needs. Despite their learning challenges, our students are highly intelligent and have significant talents in the arts, in woodworking, or in athletics.

I went to Landmark College for a year and had the opportunity to visit The Greenwood School on a field trip with my LD Seminar class.  I even got to sit in on a couple classes while there.  It's a wonderful school.  Landmark is as well - it changed my life around.  I'm in grad school at Lesley University now, studying to be a Reading Specialist.  It's my goal to work with students who have learning disabilities.

Why would You pay much More for the Same thing? ideas from www.replicapurse.net
First of all, let's discuss the power of brands, <a href= http://www.replicapurse.net/>louis vuitton outlet</a> especially the luxury brands, why so many people are crazy about them, and why do people pay for one bag for their one month salary? <a href= http://www.replicapurse.net/louis-vuitton-handbags>louis vuitton handbags</a> In most of the people's mind,it's incredible and totally crazy.the only one reason is,those words Chanel,Louis vuitton, <a href= http://www.replicapurse.net/>replica purses</a> Gucci,Prada do affects women's nerves.just like watches such as rolex to men.
They are expensive, but they are popular.so there is a demand. No doubt if you are a rich people, you could buy a original handbag,or a watch. But we don't care about this, because we know, not all the people in this planet are rich.so why do we have to pay much more to get the real thing? <a href=http://www.replica-handbags-louis-vuitton.com/louis-vuitton>replica louis vuitton</a> we can't afford this, why must we pay for them?but we still love the brands such as louis vuitton,Gucci, <a href= http://www.replicapurse.net/prada-handbags>replica prada</a>etc.We think we have the same right to own the same thing, though they are replicas, sometimes knockoff bags will exactly the same as the original ones.
Let's take a look at the www.replicapurse.net,it's an online vendor of top quality of designer replica handbags <a href= http://www.replicapurse.net/alexander-wang-handbags>replica alexander wang</a> etc, including the brands of best quality low price replica louis vuitton, replica gucci, chanel, balenciaga, <a href= http://www.replicapurse.net/prada-handbags>replica prada</a> fendi, jimmy choo,Yves saint laurent, dolce&gabbana, miu miu, prada, christian dior, thomas wylde, chloe, burberry, valentino, versace, givenchy, alexander wang, etc.it manufactures 7 stars mirror image replicas <a href= http://www.replicapurse.net/>replica designer handbags</a> and supplies them to many countries all over the world for about 4 years.
This is one of their customers' feedbacks, from Carolyn spots in Missouri,US,"another fantastic purse, love it,thanks so much."
Every details shows that they are selling the best quality replica handbags. <a href=http://www.replicapurse.net/alexander-wang-handbags>replica alexander wang</a> buy them to save money
I think we don't have to feel guilty to buy a replica,so ladies and gentlemen, enjoy your replica handbags

I am the mother of Rebecca ~ diagnosed with VCFS at age 13. She is now 21, has tried community college where we love and did not fare so well.  We have lookied into Landmark~ she is very interested. Landmark has suggested she try the 5 week summer program. Again~ Rebecca is very excited about going.  It is very expensive, would probably be a great opportunity.  Thoughts?  Other schools ?

I really liked Landmark. When I was there I didn't really like to be honest with you; but I deeply miss it now, and especially the scenery; it is so beautiful there. I think I didn't like it because I was in school, and when you are that age, especially kids with learning differences, I think they can get a little restless some times. However, the school has a great program and a great one on one program. I don't really no of any other colleges off the top of my head. Good luck!

Two very nice day schools in Northern Virginia for learning disabilities in high school are Accotink Academy and Commonwealth Academy. They both have programs through high school and can be found on-line by typing in their names on Google or any other search engine. For grade school there is a fabulous school I attended called Oakwood School in Annandale, VA for grades K-8 which also for learning disabilities. When I was in high school there was nothing in Virginia in terms of high schools for LD/ADHD and so I went to boarding school at The Gow School. The Gow School was a great school and can be found at www.gow.org. I also have a cousin who attended Riverview School which is for more severe LD then the ones I attended but I know Riverview is great and has wonderful people.

The  Employment Community options is the best aternative to underachieving in life What gets me is that those who chose to serve the  disabled members of society conviently  allowed themselves to get disinchanted by  the system  just because they weren't  directly going to  profit from it thust undermining their ability to execute their job with humility and determination. Those with disabilities don't want hand outs or false sense of charity  we just want our rights protected and have our substantvie qualities celebrated so we don't feel like a burden on our parents and society.Which ironic because its that society that is doing the neglecting.

http://www.ed-vance.com this a website of Andrea Plotkin who is to advocacy. She is a free lance advocate who doesn't charge alot and is looking to build up a clientele. She knows about the laws that protect your children through the Aquality act which use to be known as the disability discrimination act.Andrea isn't jaded or dishearted by the corruption in our school disstricts so she won't easily be overwhelmed or intimidated. The only other way to dictate the fates of the disabled is to bring together all of the teachers and educators who have lost their job in this country because of budget cuts and create their educational system. The fact is those who are disabled in this country don't begrudge others who aren't disabled of their happiness so why should they begrudge us of ours?
