We found out this last fall that my nonverbal daughter had been bullyed by her Life Skills teacher...it is a long story which has ended even worse than I could have imagined. My daughter is adopted. I have worked with the SPED director for the last 4 years trying to give all the information on my daughter's syndrome (SMS) and I found out during this horrific spring, that the director actually took the information and would not allow those working with my daughter to use it. Apparently she enjoyed having my daughter throw her tantrums and would purposly "set her off" so she would tantrum for the teachers and para's she had a disliking for. She also twisted the very words and schedule that I had written up at the begining of the year to help my daughter transition to high school, to help justify how the teacher wasn't really bullying her! I am sick in my stomach and it has triggered many deep emotions I can't seem to get over...iIt seems that teachers in my state of WA are untouchable. They overly restricted her environment, disaplined her for behaviors on her IEP, withheld services that she should have gotten which I was under the impression she was getting, set her in time out in a chair facing the corner and if that isn't enough, her teacher took her para and left her with another Para who was with her male student while the whole class left the room and my daughter started to disrobe infront of the male student....and I was not notified of this! We had to retain a lawyer who said Due Process is a slam dunk to win....for a 20k retainer!! I am broken. I was supposed to keep her safe. I was trying my hardest to create a successful school experience for everyone involved and instead my trust was twisted by the abuse of authority one lady and 2 of her friends had. She took advantage of my ADD and kept distracting me until I finally put everything together...... I am truely broken by this and feel so hopeless right now. I hope no one has to go through what we have had to. It appears the joke is on us right now. The lawyer benefits, the teachers and director go on to different school districts and we had to give up our time and money because they didn't do their job...sad.
