Oh this is simply an excellent suggestion...I really like this idea! It would certainly be worth it to investigate to see if this is offered in one's community. I had a neighbor who was from Israel and...at the bus stop us moms would wait for our kids to come off the bus and she would gather us moms in a circle to do this dancing...and it was great fun. The moms would do it and then the kids would join in as they came off the bus. It is one of my favorite bus stop memories.

Yes, that is the great thing about this kind of dancing... everyone can participate! My son has also gotten interested in playing the dunbec (a tribal like drum that greatly enhances the beat of the dance.)

Thank you for stimulating these kinds of thoughts for parents to help their children.
This is an unusual suggestion, but something we have done and immensly enjoy.
Israeli folk dancing is a wonderful, fun, interactive activity. It does not take lots of communication skills. Most dances are circle dances and do not require a partner. Each dance is combined of several different steps that are in every dance. So, once you know the particular steps, it is just a matter of remembering how they fit together for the particular dance you are doing. My son often memorizes the dance by watching it a few times and then he jumps in.
There are often dance sessions weekly that are free to the public. Many times there are friendly people there who are more than willing to show the steps slowly to someone. We are not of Jewish descent, but we are very welcomed. Sometimes these programs are at colleges. We found one such program at MIT in Boston, MA a few years ago. But, we have found them in other places, too. It is great exercise.
