4. Take care of your own mental health. Having a child who has unique challenges can place considerable stress on yourself and your relationships with others including your relationship with your spouse. I have written an article you may want to look at which gives suggestions of how to stay together as a couple when you are parenting a child with special needs. There is also help for those of you who suffer from a mood disorder. If you are suffering from anxiety please know that you can find both information and support on Health Central's Anxiety Connection site. If you are a parent who suffers from depression we also have a site called My Depression Connection where you can find other people who understand what you are going through. You are better able to help your child when you take care of your own emotional needs.
5. Learn about resources which can help your child. Quinn has created a very extensive list of schools, colleges, and general resources for your child with learning disabilities. Please also look at the comments section for more resources listed by Friends of Quinn members. We also have a page of on-line resources for learning disabilities and ADHD for you to take a look at. If you have an adult child with learning disabilities our Eileen Bailey has a wonderful resource page to help.
I do hope these suggestions were helpful in starting off this new year. I want to take the time to wish all the members of Friends of Quinn a happy and healthy New Year. We appreciate your readership and we hope to create the best community to serve your needs. If you have any questions about the site or are just in need of support please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here for you!
